To properly attach the lid to a pail, it is crucial to use a rubber mallet instead of a standard carpentry hammer. The lids are equipped with slots to provide tamper evidence, as some parts around the rim below the slots may need to be broken or cut in order to remove the lid. While the lids can be reused, the tamper evidence feature will indicate if the lid has been removed.

This FDA-compliant plastic 5-gallon lid with a spout is ideal for use with a 5-gallon bucket for pouring paint. When installing the lid, it is important to use a rubber mallet to secure it to the bucket. Standard carpentry hammers will not suffice. To achieve a tight seal, work your way around the lid with a rubber mallet at least 2 or 3 times.
